Did you know as a student you can buy almost any software at a huge discount? Here are a few examples to blow you away:
| Microsoft Studio 2003 |
Retail price: $1,079 |
Academic Price: $99 |
| Microsoft Office Pro 2003 |
Retail price: $499 |
Academic Price: $199 |
| MATLAB 7 Student Version R14 Upgrade |
Retail price: $1,900 |
Academic Price: $99 |
| Macromedia Studio MX 2004 W/Flash Pro |
Retail price: $999 |
Academic Price: $249 |
Academic software is pretty much the same as the retail version. In most cases, they're identical, except the license. The full commercial version allows the user to use the software for commercial purpose, but academic license does not allow commercial use of the software.
Where do find academic software? - Try your school bookstore or computer resource center or computer lab - Try the software manufacturer's website (e.g. Microsoft, Macromedia, etc.). Some times they're a little hard to deal with, but in general I haven't had a bad experience with them - There are also a few online retailers that sell academic software, and sometimes at an even bigger discount than school bookstore or the manufacturer. JourneyEd.com and Academic Superstore are two popular sites:
