In conversation, there are two ways to a girl's heart: 1) make her laugh, and 2) get her to talk about herself and appear genuinely fascinated by what she has to say. Start out by asking her a question about whatever she's holding in her hands at the moment (e.g., "Hey, that's a *great* CD!") and let her respond. The best way to keep a conversation going is to keep asking questions (have you ever noticed that people love to talk about themselves, and hate people who only talk about themselves?), so that you'll both feel like you're establishing some sort of connection, which will probably make you feel more at ease around girls you're talking to.
