We dug up one of the biggest dorks we knew to run this section. He can answer your computer questions, your electronics questions, "how does this work," and any other dorky question you could come up with.
I LOVE music! I have about 250CDs and I have about 5,000 songs on my laptop. I don't want to lug all my CDs to college every semester. My friend suggested that I rip all my music to my computer and leave the CDs home but, i don't want to crash my computer or slow it down by putting too much stuff on it. Any suggestions?
Thanx a Bunch
The best choice is an iPod or an MP3 player with large storage, if you can afford it. The next best choice is a portable hard drive (2.5”). They’re cheaper and you can store both music and data. But you need a computer to listen to them. Finally, the cheapest solution is to rip your music CDs to MP3 and save them back on a CD or DVD. With good compression, you can put about 10 regular CDs on one, or 70 CDs on one DVD. I don’t really like this option, but it’s dirt cheap. So I thought I covered all the choices.

ISP
Aren't you tired of getting the same stupid question asked to you, over and over again?
Well here is my question Does slow ISP affect the downloading speed of any software?
-thanks.
Of course it does. Whatever you download has to go through your ISP. If they're overloaded with connections, your connection speed is affected too.

Probability
Hey dork,
My friends and I are having an arguement, and it's up to u to end it. So here it is:
Let's say I am playing the draw straws game with eight straws and eight people. Each person takes a straw one at a time and they also reveal it when they get it. Whoever gets the short straw loses. Simple.
But my friends will not stop arguing about the chances of picking the short straw. They say it varies by when in the sequence u draw. They say the second guy has a lesser chance of winning since there's not as many straws to choose from, and so forth. They say that the 3rd or 4th guy has the greatest chance of losing. I keep telling them that the chances of losing are the same for everyone. Everyone has an one-eighth chance of losing. The last guy does since there is a one-eighth chance of the previous 7 people not picking the straw. The forth guy does since there is five straws to chose from, but u must factor in the probablilty of it even getting that far.
So, dork, I have bestowed it upon u to stop the hate and tell us the truth. Am I right or wrong?
I'm no statistician, but I'd say, you are right - the probability of losing is 1 in 8. Your chances of losing may go up or down during the game, but the overall probability remains the same.
Here's an example. Let's say the first person picks the short straw. Then the chance of losing for the other 7 is 0%. So the chance of losing didn't increase, but was eliminated for the next 7. Another scenario: The 2nd person picks the short straw. Then the chance of losing for the remaining 6 persons is 0%, again they're guaranteed not to lose. In these scenarios, your chances of losing decreases as you play the game. Let's look at the opposite scenarios. The first 2 pick a long straw. Then the chances of losing for the remaining 6 increases to 1 in 6. Let's say the first 7 pick a long straw. The chance of losing for the 8th person will be 1 in 1 (100%). The overall chances remain the same though: 1 in 8. To say that the 3rd or 4th guy have more chances of losing is incorrect.
